On 29 August, 2022, Her Excellency received the Speaker of the Queensland Parliament, the Honourable Curtis Pitt MP, Clerk of Parliament, Mr Neil Laurie, and Sergeant-at-Arms, Mr Michael Watkin, for the presentation of the following three Bills for Royal Assent:
Appropriation (Parliament) Bill 2022
A bill for an Act authorising the Treasurer to pay amounts from the consolidated fund for the Legislative Assembly and parliamentary service for the financial years starting 1 July 2022 and 1 July 2023.
Appropriation Bill 2022
A bill for an Act authorising the Treasurer to pay amounts from the consolidated fund for departments for the financial years starting 1 July 2022 and 1 July 2023.
Trading (Allowable Hours) and Other Legislation Amendment Bill 2022
A bill for an Act to amend the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006, the Education (Queensland College of Teachers) Act 2005 and the Trading (Allowable Hours) Act 1990 for particular purposes.
The passing of Appropriation Bills is an important part of Westminster convention, that enables public moneys to be paid from the 'consolidated fund' to the public service, in accordance with Parliament's wishes.
