Christmas Lights meet contemporary Queensland art
Despite the inclement weather, thousands have already flocked to Fernberg Estate to enjoy the annual Christmas Lights display over recent days.
Many of them have also ventured inside historic Government House to admire the grandly decorated Christmas tree, and several captivating contemporary artworks from The Percivals – North Queensland’s own Archibald’s.
This biennial competition showcases the talents of emerging artists from across Australia and internationally, with winning entries normally on display in Townsville’s Perc Tucker Regional Gallery. Several are on loan to Government House until the new year, among them the 2024 competition winner, Seabastion Toast’s ‘How the Light Gets In’.
Come and take advantage of this rare opportunity to celebrate our state’s rich cultural identity, while also experiencing some festive cheer.
Christmas Lights are on display nightly until Thursday, from 6:45pm - 8:15pm. The lights will proceed tonight, Wednesday 18 December, despite the wet weather - please bring an umbrella!
Enter at Gate B, 168 Fernberg Road, Paddington. Entry is free, no bookings required. See our website for more details.
If you can’t make it for the lights, bookings for 2025 House and Garden tours are now open. Step back in time as you wander through the historic rooms, each with its own unique story. Learn about the Governor's roles and the significant events that have taken place within these walls.
The gardens of Government House offer a peaceful retreat, with diverse landscapes ranging from formal gardens to native bushland.
