Delivering on the promise to visit Queenslanders where they live
The Governor’s recently completed trip to Townsville, Cairns and the Torres Strait is the first of many visits she hopes to make to Regional Queensland in 2023.
In keeping with her pledge as Governor to visit Queenslanders where they live, Her Excellency travelled widely in 2021.
Often accompanied by Professor Nimmo, she has visited towns and communities as far afield as Thursday Island, Hope Vale, Cooktown and Cairns, Mt Isa, the Gold Coast, and the Southern Downs and Western Downs.
Along the way she has spoken to everyday Queenslanders about their interests, issues, successes and challenges, and how they see their lives in relation to the State and the nation.
And she has sought to share her appreciation for those who live and work outside of big cities, particularly our emergency services and frontline workers.
Where possible, she has promoted improved health and wellbeing, Indigenous literacy and reconciliation, local business, the arts, environmental sustainability and all manner of other community pursuits.
We have plotted Her Excellency's regional visits thus far on an interactive map, with some of the highlights noted in pop-up panels, and will add to it as her term as Governor progresses.
