Flagpole Unveiling and National Reconciliation Week
The Governor of Queensland, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM has officially unveiled new flagpoles flying the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags permanently on the Fernberg Estate, alongside the Queensland and Australian flags, as recognition of First Nations people and a public commitment toward reconciliation.
In her remarks at the unveiling ceremony, Her Excellency said while Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, art works and artefacts have been displayed prominently in the House for many years, the installation of the new flagpoles emphasised the importance of recognition and reconciliation.
Following the unveiling, Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo led a Reconciliation Walk through the Fernberg Estate bushland and gardens; hosted in partnership with Health and Wellbeing Queensland.
The unveiling ceremony was streamed live on The Governor's Facebook page and can be viewed here.
