Government House Queensland
Members of the public are invited to put on their walking shoes and explore the native bushland of the Government House estate on a free community walk, as part of a new initiative beginning in April.

Walking at their own pace, visitors can spend up to an hour exploring the estate’s 10 hectares of native Australian bushland along a dedicated 1.1-kilometre-long track (multiple laps are encouraged!).
Along the way, walkers will pass the tranquil Ponds area, which is an important breeding ground for some of the more than 60 species of birds found on the estate.
The inaugural walk will be hosted by Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM, Governor of Queensland. Health and Wellbeing Queensland, an organisation of which the Governor is Patron and which seeks to improve the health and wellbeing of all Queenslanders, will support the event.
The free community walks fulfil the Governor’s pledge, made when sworn in, to encourage a ‘healthy and active Queensland’, and to open up the estate grounds to more Queenslanders.
Key information
- The inaugural community walk will take place on Wednesday 6 April 2022 from 9am to 10am (with arrival from 8:45am).
- Participation is free, with walkers required to register here.
- Entry and parking are at the lower end of the estate on Baroona Road at Norm Buchan Park (where the Bardon Market takes place, see the map below).
- The pathway is approximately 1.1km in length and winds its way through the ten hectares of bushland occupying the estate.
- Participants should have a medium level of fitness, as there are some hills and challenging surfaces, including gravel pathways.
- Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable walking clothes and sturdy shoes, and to bring a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle.
- Health and Wellbeing Queensland will provide fruit and water.
- Entry to the Government House Estate is subject to all visitors following the protocols outlined on the Government House website.
