Governor attends Reception for King Charles III and Queen Camilla
The Governor and Professor Nimmo have attended a Parliamentary Reception in the presence of His Majesty King Charles III and Her Majesty The Queen at Parliament House in Canberra.
The Royal visit by King Charles III and Queen Camilla to Australia - the first by a reigning Monarch in more than a decade, and The King's first since ascending to the Throne - took in Sydney and Canberra.
In his speech at the Reception, King Charles III said: “Over the six decades since my first visit, I have, of course, witnessed both continuity and great change. It is worth reflecting that Australia’s unique character has endured and also evolved, and that Australia has become a stronger nation as a result of becoming one of the most multicultural on Earth.” View His Majesty's speech in full below.
Later in the day, the Vice-Regal couple attended the Last Post Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial, honouring Sergeant George Russell Drysdale, from Burdekin in Queensland, who served Australia in the First World War.
