Governor attends the Opening of Parliament
The Governor has attended the Opening of the 58th State Parliament, signifying the beginning of a new parliamentary term.
In a day full of tradition and fanfare, Her Excellency's arrival at Parliament House was heralded with a 19-gun salute, fired from Australian Army Howitzer guns stationed across the Brisbane River in Kangaroo Point.
She then inspected the guard, band and Mounted Police prior to proceeding to the Legislative Council Chamber, where she delivered a speech on behalf of the Government, as is convention.
It was another important demonstration of the constitutional role Her Excellency plays to ensure the state enjoys a stable and representative Government for the benefit of all Queenslanders.
After delivering her address, the Governor spent time at a reception attended by all Members of Parliament, their family members and guests and religious and military leaders.
Family members of the Vice-Regal couple were also in attendance, including Her Excellency’s mother, making it a special day indeed as she had been unable to attend her swearing-in as Governor.
