Governor prepares for role in Opening of Parliament
The Governor has attended a run-through of the formal ceremony that marks the Opening of Parliament, elements of which have remained the same since the mid-1800s and link to traditional Westminster practices that date back centuries.
On Wednesday, Her Excellency will attend the opening along with Members of the 58th Parliament, judges, religious leaders, and armed forces representatives in full ceremonial dress.
The Governor, whose arrival at Parliament House in the Vice-Regal Rolls-Royce will be announced with a powerful 19-gun salute, will play a key role in the ceremony including delivering a speech on behalf of the incoming Government.
The procedures for the Opening of Parliament in modern-day Queensland are guided by legislation, including the Constitution of Queensland 2001, the Parliament of Queensland Act 2001, and the Standing Rules and Orders of the Legislative Assembly.
