Governor presides over swearing-in of new Premier
The Governor today presided over the swearing-in of the Honourable David Crisafulli MP as the 41st Premier of Queensland and the Honourable Jarrod Bleijie MP as Deputy Premier, with both also sworn in as members of Executive Council at Government House.
The swearing-in ceremony symbolises a transition of leadership and reaffirms the commitment of those taking the Oath of Office to serve the people of Queensland.
After formally accepting the letters of resignation from outgoing Ministers, presented by the Clerk of the Executive Council, Her Excellency then appointed Mr Crisafulli as Premier and Mr Bleijie as Deputy Premier, alongside their respective ministerial portfolios. This was done by the Governor signing Portfolio and Executive Council Commissions, each of which were then countersigned by the Premier.
Mr Crisafulli as Premier and Mr Bleijie then took Oaths of Allegiance and Office, pledging to fulfill their duties with integrity and dedication, and the Governor expressed her confidence in their ability to support Queensland’s “progress and advancement”.
At its conclusion, and according to tradition, the Premier then offered a message of thanks to the Governor: “Your Excellency, I express our appreciation to you for the manner in which you have conducted the swearing-in and for administering the necessary Oaths. I assure Your Excellency that as Ministers of the State, we will fulfil the duties of our appointed offices and, importantly, we will seek to exemplify the qualities expected of people in such offices.”
