Governor swears in Crisafulli Cabinet
The Governor has presided over the swearing-in of the Crisafulli Ministry at Government House, in a ceremony witnessed by friends, family and supporters of the incoming Ministers.
Before Members of Parliament can take their seats or vote in the Legislative Assembly, they are required to take an oath or affirmation of allegiance recognising the Monarch, presently King Charles III, as the lawful sovereign.
In Queensland's system of responsible government, the Governor is the King's representative, acting on the advice of the Premier and the Cabinet while adhering to constitutional conventions and statutory mandates. The Governor also presides over the Executive Council, which formalises Cabinet decisions.
At the Swearing-in, the Governor signed the Proclamation under the Constitution of Queensland 2001 declaring the new Portfolio titles of the Ministers of the State, with the Premier counter-signing.
She then administered, in order of seniority, Oaths of Allegiance and of Office as a Minister of the State, and of Office and of Secrecy as a member of the Executive Council.
After the ceremony, Government House provided light refreshments as the Governor met with members of the new Cabinet and their guests, wishing them well in their roles.
