In Conversation with the Governor-General: Part I
Government House recently hosted the Governor-General of Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC, who was in town to officially open the 2024 Royal Queensland Show.
Before departing Queensland, Her Excellency joined in conversation with Queensland's Governor, during which they shared their insights on a number of topics, including the evolving role of Vice-Regal leaders in our modern democracy, the value of care, kindness, and respect to our people and institutions, and the importance of celebrating the diverse achievements that make Australia unique.
We invite you to listen to the first part of their conversation, which touches on the wonders and importance of the Ekka.
Her Excellency the Governor of Queensland is Patron of the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland, a not for profit member-based association that runs the Ekka on behalf of the community each year. However, by tradition, our State and Commonwealth Vice-Regal representatives take turns opening the much-loved show, which draws 400,000 visitors on average each year.
The Governor-General, during her time at the show, met with Queensland primary producers, exhibitors, competitors and visitors, and spent time with the finalists and winners of the Queensland Country Life Showgirls. She rightly made the point that our Ekka is "legendary" and a "cherished" part of Queensland's history and identity.
