Jack's Law Granted Royal Assent
On Sunday 2 April, the Governor received the Deputy Clerk of Parliament, Mr Michael Ries and granted Royal Assent to Jack’s Law – legislation named in honour of knife crime victim Jack Beasley who would have celebrated his 21st birthday today.
Police Powers and Responsibilities (Jack’s Law) Amendment Bill 2023
A bill for an Act to amend the Police Powers and Responsibilities Act 2000 for particular purposes.
The granting of Royal Assent is the final step in the legislative process, upon which the Bill becomes an Act of Parliament.
Her Excellency met with Minister for Police and Corrective Services and Minister for Fire and Emergency Services the Honourable Mark Ryan MP, along with Jack's parents Mrs Belinda Beasley and Mr Brett Beasley regarding the proposed legislation last Thursday 30 March, and discussed the significance of the law being granted Royal Assent today, on Jack's birthday.
Speaking to the Courier Mail, Mr Beasley said; "What better 21st birthday present could you get?"
