Marking The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
Government House will be illuminated in purple and the Queensland Governor will release a special video message to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee this Sunday, 6 February 2022.
Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II ascended to the Throne on 6 February 1952, on the death of her father, King George VI.
Two days later, on 8 February 1952, the accession of Her Majesty was proclaimed in Queensland from the balcony of Parliament House by then Governor, Sir John Lavarack.
To mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, a purple wash will illuminate Government House – the official residence of the Sovereign’s personal representative in Queensland since 1910 – on Sunday evening, 6 February 2022. The colour purple is synonymous with royalty.
The Governor also released a special video (below) to mark the historic occasion.
Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young PSM is the 12th personal representative of Her Majesty The Queen since her accession in 1952.
Her Majesty has visited Queensland eight times as Head of State – in 1954, 1963, 1970, 1977, 1982, 1988, 2002 and most recently in 2011.
