Official travel to India to raise Queensland's profile
The Governor and Professor Nimmo have traveled to India as part of a Trade and Investment Queensland mission to further reinforce Queensland’s important economic and bilateral ties with the nation.
Arriving in New Delhi, the Vice-Regal couple paid homage at Raj Ghat, the memorial in Delhi dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi.
Located on the banks of the Yamuna River, Raj Ghat holds deep historical significance as the site of Gandhi’s cremation, while the eternal flame and serene gardens surrounding it symbolise his enduring legacy of truth and non-violence.
Following, they visited Humayun's Tomb, built in 1556, is the mausoleum of the second Mughal emperor Humayun. It is the first garden mausoleum in the Indian subcontinent and has special cultural and historical significance to their people, as does its most recognisable mausoleum made entirely of white marble, the Taj Mahal.
Located in Agra, just under a four-hour drive from New Delhi, it is one of the most universally admired masterpieces of the world’s heritage, and a symbol of love, beauty and cultural harmony.
The cultural visits marked the beginning of a full itinerary for the Vice-Regal couple that includes Hyderabad for BioAsia 2025 and Bengaluru, as part of a trade delegation that will seek to raise our state’s profile by emphasising our amazing capabilities in key sectors—while at the same time, celebrating and reinforcing our already close relationship with India and strengthening the ties between us.
