Open Day - Sunday 16 October
The Government House Estate will be open to the public on Sunday 16 October from 11am-3pm, with live music and food vans onsite.
This special Open Day is in recognition of the accession of King Charles III as our new Sovereign and Head of State.
Visitors are welcome inside the historic house, where knowledgeable volunteer guides will be on hand to talk about the history of the house and the constitutional, ceremonial and community duties of the Governor.
Additionally, free, guided garden tours will depart from The Queen’s statue at 11:30am, 1pm and 2pm. A moderate level of fitness and comfortable walking shoes are recommended.
This event is also being supported by several of the Governor’s Patronage organisations. Visit the information tents of the Queensland Military Historical Society, Queensland Family History Society, RSPCA Queensland, and the National Parks Association of Queensland to discover more about the wonderful work they do in our State, or take part in an Open Day Treasure Hunt facilitated by Multicultural Australia, who will also be showcasing Queensland's cultural diversity through a range of multicultural performances.
Why not linger and pair a treat from the King of Cakes with a liquid refreshment from the Rumour Mill Espresso coffee van, as you listen to music from the Brisbane Excelsior band and the City of Brisbane Pipe Band.
Spread a picnic blanket on the soft lawns and soak in the atmosphere of Government House.
This is a free event, with no registration required. While there is no parking onsite, street parking will be available on Fernberg Road and the streets surrounding the Estate. No pets (assistance dogs excepted) or alcohol permitted.
Plan your day ahead of time using our Program of Events below. See you there!
