Queensland's Chief Scout attends 26th Australian Jamboree
The Governor has travelled to Queensland’s Fraser Coast region to take part in the 26th Australian Jamboree, a 10-day event that has drawn Scouts, Venturers and adult volunteers from around the country and the world.
Her Excellency, who is Queensland’s Chief Scout, officially opened AJ2025 on Monday evening, reflecting on the Jamboree's rich history. Noting the significant changes to the event since 1934, the Governor emphasised the enduring spirit of adventure and camaraderie. And she commended the organisers, for their hard work in creating this "experience of a lifetime" for thousands of young people.
The Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park has been turned into a mini city for the occasion, complete with a mall, medical centre, bus terminal, several event arenas, food vendors, and a Jamboree merch and souvenir store. Befitting a scouting jamboree in this pristine and picturesque part of the state, there are ample sporting and games facilities, obstacle courses to conquer and bushland to explore, with outings to nearby tourist attractions and the warm waters of nearby Hervey Bay also on offer.
In other words, plenty of places to find adventure, meet new friends, and embrace new challenges, all while adhering to the Scout Law, requiring participants to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent at all times.
Her Excellency enjoyed a grand tour of the AJ 2025 - 26th Australian Jamboree site, guided by the Chief Commissioner of Scouts Queensland, Geoff Doo. She even experienced what is surely a camp favourite, a lime-green slushie.
