Vice-Regal couple open new Fernberg bushland tracks
Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo have officially opened a network of new bushland tracks through the Fernberg Estate, cutting a ribbon and unveiling a commemorative plaque marking this milestone for Government House.
Members of the public braved intermittent rain to join the Vice-Regal couple for a special Family Day Out, celebrating the launch of these scenic trails through 14 hectares of protected bushland in the heart of Brisbane.
Families, walkers and nature-lovers explored the newly opened tracks—winding paths that reveal the Estate’s rich natural and historical legacy, from remnant native forest to century-old trees and hidden heritage landmarks.
The updated wayfinding and interpretive signage were a hit with visitors, offering insights into the area’s unique ecology and cultural significance.
The launch also reflected Her Excellency’s ongoing commitment to healthy, active living and community connection—values she pledged to champion at her swearing-in.
The day was attended and supported by staff from Health and Wellbeing Queensland, which regularly cohosts community bushland walks with the Governor, at Fernberg and in regional Queensland.
With vans such as King of Cakes Bean Wandering serving coffee and treats, wonderful music provided by the Queensland Youth Orchestras, and the historic house open for tours, today’s event brought Fernberg’s story to life in the best possible way.
Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate—and walk—in this very special place.
