Vice-Regal couple return from India trade mission
The Governor and Professor Nimmo have returned from India after a weeklong visit, part of a Trade and Investment Queensland mission to further reinforce Queensland’s important economic and bilateral ties with the powerhouse nation.
Upon arrival in New Delhi, they paid homage at Raj Ghat, the memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi, marking the beginning of a culturally rich and significant visit. The Vice-Regal couple also visited Humayun's Tomb, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that holds deep historical and cultural significance in India, before continuing their journey to Agra to admire the Taj Mahal, one of the world’s most iconic symbols of love and cultural harmony.
The main purpose of the visit was to engage in a series of high-level activities to promote Queensland’s capabilities in key sectors.
A highlight was the Governor’s participation in BioAsia 2025 in Hyderabad, where she addressed thousands at the inaugural ceremony of the region’s premier life sciences and health-tech event. Queensland’s presence was strong, with 20 delegates representing ten companies and research institutions, showcasing their innovative work in the life sciences sector. The Governor, alongside Minister for Finance, Minister for Trade and Minister for Employment and Training, The Honourable Ros Bates, inaugurated the Queensland showcase, emphasising the state’s growing role in global healthcare innovation and the power of collaboration in driving advancements. BioAsia 2025 served as a key platform for furthering Queensland’s global partnerships and reinforcing its reputation for expertise in life sciences.
In Noida, the Governor officially inaugurated Infravision’s new office, highlighting the Australian-founded company’s success in India’s fast-growing market. Infravision’s expansion is an excellent example of Queensland businesses making bold strides in global markets, and the new office, set to scale to 100 employees by 2025, marks a significant milestone in Australia-India collaboration. The Governor participated in a traditional lamp lighting ceremony, symbolising the new office’s potential for growth and prosperity.
The mission also included trade and investment meetings in Bengaluru, where the Governor and Professor Nimmo promoted Queensland’s capabilities in technology and digital transformation, with visits to major companies like Infosys and Ferra Aerospace India.
Through these visits, the Vice-Regal couple further solidified Queensland's growing ties with India and highlighted the state’s position as a leading destination for business, innovation, and collaboration ahead of Brisbane 2032.
