Vice-Regal couple visit Bundaberg Regional Council

The Governor and Professor Nimmo have recently returned from an official visit to Bundaberg Regional Council, where they were hosted by Mayor, Councillor Jack Dempsey, ably assisted by Ms Robyn Silcox and Ms Betty Kao.

Bundaberg is one of Australia’s fasted growing regional centres and over the course of the Vice-Regal couple’s three-day visit, it became very apparent why that is so!

Visits to patronage organisations LifeFlight and the Royal Flying Doctor Service - Queensland Section at the new joint Bundaberg Aeromedical Base on arrival kicked off a busy itinerary that included a briefing at Council Chambers, along with visits to Bundaberg Base Hospita l, UQ Rural Clinical School, Burnett Heads State School and a wreath laying at the Bundaberg War Nurses Memorial.

From riding the Australian Sugar Cane Railway Bundaberg Steam Train and tackling the Hinkler Quickstep at the Hinkler Hall of Aviation, to attending the Sunset Launch of the Milbi Festival and the world-renowned Mon Repos Turtle Centre and Conservation Park, there was plenty to keep the Vice-Regal couple on their feet!

Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo also enjoyed exploring the region’s rich agricultural history and sampling the local produce during visits to Macadamias Australia and 2022 Queensland Exporter of the Year, Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, where they were even presented with their own personalised Bundaberg Ginger Beer!

As always, meeting with local community members to hear about their work, lives and passions was an absolute highlight.
