In the morning, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC departed Wellington for Christchurch.
Following, in Christchurch, the Governor met local representatives of Queensland companies involved in the Canterbury earthquake recovery and reconstruction efforts and received a briefing on rebuild progress and challenges.
Then, the Governor visited the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Authority (CERA) and met Acting Chief Executive, CERA, Mr John Ombler, and CERA staff, and received a briefing on the ongoing earthquake recovery effort and then toured the central city area to view progress of anchor projects and precincts.
In the afternoon, the Governor attended a lunch with representatives of key agencies involved in the Canterbury region and Christchurch rebuild efforts; and then visited the Transitional Cathedral, Latimer Square, Christchurch, where the Governor laid a wreath in remembrance of those who were killed and injured in the February 2011 earthquake, and in recognition of the contribution of Queensland emergency service personnel to rescue and recovery efforts, before returning to Wellington.
