On Thursday, in the morning, at Cairns Art Gallery, Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM hosted an Investiture Ceremony for the following recipients of Australian Honours and Awards announced in the 2024 Australia Day Honours List;

• Chief Petty Officer Gillian Louise Bryant CSC; Mr Darren Cleland PSM; Ms Tracey Leanne Graham PSM; Assistant Commissioner Chris Andrew Hodgman APM; Sergeant Lesley Walker APM; Mr Geoffrey Phillip Robins ACM;
• Mr Raymond Valentine Byrnes OAM; Mr David John Chalk OAM; Mr John Francis Compton OAM; Mr John Charles Moran OAM; Mr Colin Sidney Sparkes OAM.

 In the afternoon, at Council Chambers, Mareeba, Her Excellency and Professor Graeme Nimmo RFD received a briefing from the Mayor and Councillors of Mareeba Shire Council.

Following, Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo visited Mareeba State School, and met students and teachers, toured the school and read a book.

Following, at Mareeba Heritage Museum and Visitor Information Centre, toured the facility and met with staff and volunteers.

Following, at Mareeba International Club, Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo hosted an afternoon tea in support of the Mareeba Shire Community, and the Governor addressed guests.
