On Wednesday, in the morning, at Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC attended the opening ceremony of the 2016 Australian Engineering Conference and delivered the welcome address.

Following, at Wheller Gardens, Chermside, the Governor attended 80th anniversary celebrations, unveiled a plaque, officially opened the Betty Smith Precinct and addressed guests.

In the afternoon, at Government House, the Governor hosted a luncheon in honour of Brisbane business leaders, at which the guest of honour was the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of Brisbane Councillor Graham Quirk. Other guests included: the Honourable Justice John Byrne AO, RFD; Mr Des Power AM; Mr William Grant OAM; Mr Harvey Lister; Mr Jeremy Maycock; Mr Mitchell Ogilvie; Ms Sarina Russo; Mr Stephen Tait; Air Commodore Mark Gower OAM; and Ms Cecily Pearson.
