On Wednesday, in the morning, at St Paul’s Cathedral, Melbourne, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey AC attended the State Funeral service for the Right Honourable Sir Ninian Stephen KG AK GCMG GCVO KBE QC.  

In the afternoon, the Governor returned to Brisbane from an official visit to Melbourne, and the Honourable Chief Justice Catherine Holmes ceased duty as Acting Governor of Queensland.

Following, at Government House, the Governor and Mrs Kaye de Jersey hosted a reception for the Defence Reserves Support Council, Queensland, where His Excellency addressed guests and conferred the 2017 Prince of Wales and Tasman Scheme Awards.

In the evening, at Government House, the Governor and Mrs de Jersey hosted a dinner in support of the Australia-China Council. Guests included: the Honourable Warwick Smith AM; Ms Anne-Marie Schwirtlich AM; Ms Margaret Jack; Ms Carolyn Kay; Mr Daniel Ryan; Mr Harold Weldon; Professor Michael Wesley; Mr John Toigo; Mr Stephen Abbott; Mr Derek Brown; Ms Virginia Greville; Mr Don Boyd; Mr ‘Alopi Latukefu; Ms Jasmine Antonious; Mr Graham Fletcher; and Ms Cecily Pearson OAM.
