The Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club 2016 ‘Cairns Amateurs’ Annual Ball
Ladies and gentlemen, it is Kaye’s and my great pleasure to join you once again at this centrepiece Ball, part of the now forty-seven year strong tradition that is the Cairns Amateurs.
We were particularly delighted to join many of you on the track earlier today, where I presented The Governor’s Trophy, and where the convivial, celebratory atmosphere was matched only in vibrancy by the appropriate and tropical attire on display!
The Cairns Amateurs, and this Ball, are mainstays of the Far North Queensland social calendar, and understandably so!
They provide beneficial opportunities for our State’s, and the Far North’s, city, coastal and country identities to come together, thereby increasing our society’s cohesion, while providing well-deserved occasions to let off some steam!
I thank the Far North Queensland Amateur Turf Club, the sponsors and supporters, and all of you, enthusiastic Amateur-goers, for supporting this time-honoured event.
In this celebratory spirit, and as your Governor, it is my great pleasure to now invite you, ladies and gentlemen, to raise your glasses, and join with me in toasting: “the Cairns Amateurs”.
