Private Investiture Ceremony for Mr Ian Trevor McIvor OAM and Mrs Shirley Naina McIvor OAM
Mayor Antonio, ladies and gentlemen.
As Governor of Queensland, I am proud and privileged to present to you today, Mr Trevor McIvor and Mrs Shirley McIvor, one of the highest honours Australians can achieve.
On behalf of all Queenslanders, particularly the people of Toowoomba and the many visitors to this memorial room, I commend you for your outstanding contribution to our State, and our nation – and your unwavering dedication to the preservation of our military history.
Many years of commitment and service have been noted and appreciated by your community, and although you did not undertake these wonderful initiatives for the sake of public recognition, you are both certainly most deserving of today’s commendations.
Your documented research of our State’s war memorials will continue to be a significant resource for generations to come.
And the room in which we gather today, the ANZAC Memorial Room, is a tribute not only to the ANZAC spirit, but to your sense of selflessness and the legacy left by our war veterans.
Of course, model rocketry has been a lifelong passion for you both, and you have had a hand in training thousands of Space Pilots in craft, modelling, optics, chemistry and physics as the club you founded here in Toowoomba continues to survive and thrive.
With the bestowing of these medals you join a distinguished group of remarkable Australians who are admired and respected by all.
Everyone who joins us here today, we wholly commend and congratulate you for all you have done – and all you continue to do – for Toowoomba, our State, and our nation.
Thank you.
