Rainworth State School Leadership Induction Ceremony

Principal, Ms Richenda Wagener; Rainworth State School students, staff and supporters.

Thank you all most sincerely for your warm welcome this morning, and students, thank you for your performances of the National Anthem and Feel It Still.

Congratulations to your school captains, it is not always easy to address the school community, and you did it superbly, laying firm foundations for what I am sure will be another exciting year.

I am very proud, as Governor of Queensland, to join you for today’s ceremony, and to officially present badges to your 20 school leaders for 2019.

Some of you may have noticed this morning that the Governor’s Standard is flying at the school.

I serve the people of Queensland on behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, and the Standard is one of the symbols of office.

From today, school leaders, you will serve the student body of Rainworth State School, and I will soon have the pleasure of presenting you with your symbol of office.

I encourage you all to wear your badges with pride, but also with humility.

It is a wonderful honour to be chosen as a school captain, but with that honour comes significant responsibility.

Ultimately, leadership is about character.

Respected leaders, while humble in their achievements, guide us down constructive paths, and by their own example, encourage us to help each other, and to set high standards of conduct and performance.

You have demonstrated throughout your schooling that you set high standards for yourself in all that you do.

Importantly, it is not just the ‘badged’ leaders who are looked up to.

Year 6 students, you are all leaders of Rainworth State School.

As the oldest and most experienced students here, you are role models for the younger students, particularly the girls and boys in Prep who this year begin their official schooling.

You set an example for the school body to follow, and I am sure you will embrace that responsibility with genuine vigour.
