Government House hosted community morning tea in Moreton Bay
Mayor Sutherland; other elected representatives; ladies and gentlemen.
Thank you for the warm welcome you have extended to Kaye and me today, it is wonderful to be back in Moreton Bay.
I at once acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we gather, and pay respect to their Elders past and present – with encouragement to their young emerging leaders.
This is my fourth official visit to your proud region since I became Governor of Queensland in 2014.
Already today we have attended a briefing with your Mayor and other council representatives, and have visited the adjoining Caboolture Regional Art Gallery – a tremendous asset for the many creatives in your diverse and vibrant community!
We look forward to visiting Morayfield State School, the Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, and USC Petrie later today.
Ladies and gentlemen, there is certainly no lack of ambition, energy and innovation across this region.
Moreton Bay is now one of Australia’s fastest growing urban centres, with the population forecast to increase by more than 40 per cent to more than people 700,000 in 2050.
From hinterland to shoreline and everything in between, Moreton Bay’s natural beauty is simply stunning.
Of course, it is not just lifestyle that makes an area attractive.
Moreton Bay has become a substantial employment and economic force, with a Gross Regional Product of $17.4 billion, and a highly skilled workforce of nearly 120,000 people who are employed in 27,000 businesses.
These are impressive figures that give us every reason to be confident about the future.
As we all know, success doesn’t come easy.
It requires sustained and concerted efforts by all those involved.
Moreton Bay’s spectacular advancement is a testament to the vision and determination of the many generations who have called this region home.
Indeed, you are a strong and supportive community, ready to make the most of every opportunity.
Ladies and gentlemen, Kaye and I are most grateful for your hospitality today.
On behalf of all Queenslanders, we congratulate you, the people of Moreton Bay, on your continued success, and thank you wholeheartedly for the contributions you have made – and are making – to the prosperity of our State.
Thank you.
