Official Opening of the 2019 Murgon Music Muster
South Burnett Mayor, Cr Keith Campbell; Cherbourg Mayor, Cr Arnold Murray; President of the Murgon Rotary Club, Mr Heath Sander; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen; girls and boys.
Thank you, Aunt Vera, for your Welcome to Country, and to the Wakka Wakka Dancers. I at once acknowledge the traditional owners of these lands, and extend respectful greetings to Elders, past and present, and with encouragement to their young emerging leaders.
It is a great pleasure to be visiting the Murgon community today and I thank you for your warm welcome. While I have made previous official visits to other parts of this wonderful region, including to Cherbourg, this is the first time I have been here, as Governor of Queensland.
I feel both privileged and delighted to be with you today, as you celebrate another famous Murgon Music Muster, and anticipate being enthralled by three more days of outstanding country entertainment.
Of all my many duties as Governor of this tremendous State, meeting the people who live in regional areas is amongst the most uplifting.
I know that even as you endure the ongoing, and difficult effects of drought, your passion for your hometown encourages you to come together and be proud of the fabulous attributes your region has to offer.
This demonstrates an enterprising spirit, and a commitment to think of others, even as you may be struggling yourselves.
Your generosity is further evident, when we consider that over its nine year history, the Murgon Music Muster has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help a range of charities fulfill their objectives.
These big-hearted contributions really make a difference.
And what better way to showcase this inspiring community fellowship, than by sharing the joy music brings?
There is something about country music that connects people. Regional stories come to life through song, and the diverse experiences of country living are expressed.
This year’s Muster boasts an incredible line-up of professional headline artists and homegrown talent. I know that in the days ahead, you will enjoy much toe-tapping, have a line dance or two, and relish the opportunity to meet other people.
I thank members of the Rotary Club of Murgon, who together with the Murgon Music Muster Committee and a dedicated band of volunteers, have worked tirelessly on this wonderful event.
I further commend the Cherbourg and South Burnett Regional Councils, together with an extensive number of magnanimous local businesses, for their support. You have all helped to bring Murgon to centre stage.
For those visiting, enjoy your time in this wonderful and unique part of Queensland. With its rich history, country-charm, wineries, and diverse natural surrounds, I am sure this visit will not be your last, or indeed, mine.
And now, it is my tremendous pleasure to declare the 2019 Murgon Music Muster officially open!
