Ithaca Creek State School Year Six Graduation Presentation
Member for Cooper, Ms Jonty Bush MP; Paddington Ward Councillor Peter Matic; our former longstanding Principal, Mrs Eunice Webb, now Assistant Regional Director; Acting Principal Mrs Danielle Freeman; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen; girls and boys.
I too acknowledge the traditional owners of these lands and extend respectful greetings to Elders and emerging leaders. I thank Miss Molly Lynch for her beautiful rendition of the National Anthem.
Thank you for inviting me here this evening.
As you may know, I completed my primary education at this wonderful School and, as a member of your community and proud neighbour, I am delighted to join you once again for the Year Six Graduation.
Firstly, to the parents and carers here tonight – congratulations!
What an incredible journey you have had with your children! Such a transformation could not have occurred without your love and encouragement.
I also want to thank the teachers and school support staff. Your role in our community is unparalleled. These young Queenslanders are a testament to your dedication in providing the highest standards of education.
I am sure that with such a supportive start, these students will go on to help shape the future of our great State.
And, of course now, let me turn to the stars of the evening – the graduating Seniors!
Throughout your time at Ithaca Creek State School you have worked hard and become more knowledgeable about the world around you.
You have made friends – some of them hopefully will become friends for life.
You have learnt the importance of considering others while being responsible for yourselves.
But one of the greatest skills you have acquired is that of overcoming adversity.
This year it became necessary to attend School from home. At first, this must have seemed impossible, but I am sure it was not long before you managed a new way of learning.
Despite that challenge, you have now successfully completed your primary schooling to become the stars of tonight’s celebration and fulfil the theme of this graduation – ad astra per aspera – through hardship to the stars.
No matter what lies ahead students, believe in yourselves. If you face set-backs, overcome them by making good choices, and never be afraid to ask for help along the way.
But now it is time to get ready to embrace the marvellous opportunities that await you.
Congratulations to all of Year Six, to the award winners and, in particular, to the recipient of the Paul de Jersey Academic Award I will shorty present.
I wish each of you every success for the future.
Thank you and a very Merry Christmas to all.
