Bowen Business Leaders Breakfast
Mayor, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for taking time out of your busy schedules to join me for breakfast today.
The past year has been a challenge for our State and our country, and, indeed, for the world.
COVID-19 has presented personal and economic challenges far beyond any experience in living memory. The pandemic has tested resilience and has taught us the importance of working together for the common good.
I am keenly aware, as leaders of local industry, you are already focussed on promoting cohesion and ensuring a productive future for the residents of this region.
While the beautiful Whitsundays will remain a tourism drawcard for this area – and I hope visitor numbers strengthen – I applaud the foresight of the Bowen Collinsville Enterprise, the Bowen Chamber of Commerce, the Bowen Gumlu Growers Association and Council in seeking to attract a mix of industries.
Yesterday I was briefed on plans for Flagstaff Hill and the Centre of Marine Excellence.
The projects are breathtaking, not only in their construction, but the scope in which they will expand community activities, create employment and promote local industry.
I look forward this morning to discussing other opportunities, and hearing about challenges, of doing business in this region.
As Governor, I personally thank you for all you do to advance this region and our State, both through your own businesses and the chambers of commerce and industry associations you represent.
Your work ensures the next generation of Queenslanders can look forward to secure, well paid employment, while raising their families in desirable communities. Thank you.
