30 Years of Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea in Queensland
Cancer Council Queensland, Chair, Dr Anita Green and Directors, CEO Mr Andrew Donne; staff; supporters; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen, welcome.
I begin by acknowledging the original custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today.
As we stand here this morning, I wanted to reflect on the fact that today is not just your usual morning tea at Government House; it is also part of a much larger community event – or events – that are taking place across Australia.
In fact, more than 21,000 Australians have already registered as hosts to be part of this year’s ‘Biggest Morning Tea’.
To unite a nation in this way is something truly powerful and by no means an easy feat to achieve, so I commend everyone involved in bringing this community fundraising event to fruition – the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia.
This year is even more special, as we celebrate 30 years of the Cancer Council's Biggest Morning Tea in Queensland.
As a joint Patron, with Graeme, of Cancer Council Queensland, we have been proud to watch this event grow from strength to strength. It is testament to the generosity and compassion of Queenslanders that, year after year, they rally together to support this important cause.
Of course, the heart of this success lies not only behind a supportive community but also behind the dedicated employees, volunteers, and supporters of Cancer Council Queensland.
So, as we come together today, and shortly enjoy a cuppa together; let us celebrate the achievements of the past 30 years and the people who have contributed to those achievements.
Because it is with the success of events such as this, that we can continue to support people impacted by cancer when they need it most and continue to work towards a cancer-free future.
In closing, I would like to now invite Graeme to join me in presenting a Certificate of Vice-Regal Patronage to Cancer Council Queensland Chair, Dr Anita Green, solidifying our commitment to supporting the wonderful work you do. Thank you.
