Announcement of Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner as Honorary Ambassador of the Children's Hospital Foundation
The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Councillor Adrian Schrinner and Lady Mayoress Nina Schrinner; Chair, Children’s Hospital Foundation Board, Dr Jane Black; donors, supporters and staff of the Foundation; distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen.
I too wish to acknowledge the Original Custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today.
Thank you for inviting me here to formally welcome Lady Mayoress Schrinner as Honorary Ambassador of the Children’s Hospital Foundation Queensland, an organisation I have proudly represented as Patron since I became Governor in 2021.
In recent days and weeks, I have been reminded of just how fortunate we are to live in a place like Queensland, with its wonderful and widely accessible health system.
Even in the worst of times, through natural disasters such as the recent weather events in north Queensland and here in the state’s south-east, our dedicated health professionals work around the clock to ensure the best outcomes for patients, families, and the community.
However, even in the best of times the need is still great, especially in rural, regional, and remote parts of our state, something I have been made acutely aware of as I travel throughout Queensland in my role as a Governor for all of Queensland.
And this is where organisations like the Children’s Hospital Foundation truly make a difference.
Thanks to the generosity and tireless efforts of the Foundation, we continue to move toward a situation where all children, regardless of where they live in Queensland, have access to world-leading paediatric care when they need it most.
The Foundation is a lifeline, funding cutting-edge medical equipment, supporting vital research, and providing on-the-ground assistance for children suffering from all manner of illnesses, injuries, and conditions.
And its people are committed to identifying and acting upon the gaps in funding and support across the kids' health landscape – in places that are often left behind but are no less deserving of our attention and care.
Today, with Lady Mayoress Schrinner joining as Honorary Ambassador, the Foundation steps into an even brighter future, where its reach will extend further, and its positive impact will be amplified.
Let us continue to work towards ensuring every child, no matter the challenges they face, receives the best possible care and support.
Thank you to everyone here for your ongoing support, and for your continued efforts to help Queensland’s kids thrive.
