Asian Buggy Championships
Moreton Bay Regional Council Mayor, Councillor Peter Flannery and Councillor Matthew Constance; President, Pine Hills Dirt Racing, Mr Zac Ryan and Committee; Promoter, Mr Scotty Ernst; distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls.
I begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the lands on which we gather and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today.
Good morning all, and what an exciting occasion we have on our hands today at the home of Pine Hills Dirt Racing and I thank Mr Ty Beale, Treasurer of Pine Hills Dirt Racing, for the invitation.
With a 30-year history of racing radio-controlled, offroad cars, this club has gone from strength to strength, and today marks a very significant date on your calendar.
The Asian Buggy Championships are a wonderful opportunity for enthusiasts and racers to gather for some great track activity with like-minded people from all over. I’m told there will be much ado about the racing and more ado about the fun associated with this activity.
In the field of Asian Buggy racing, I know that the drivers are akin to rock stars! What they can accomplish with their vehicles is what these championships are all about.
I’ve heard that there will be the ‘pro’s’ and there will be the ‘joe’s’ and that all are welcome to engage in the racing and the fun that accompanies it.
Apparently, there is a ‘vibe’ to the championships that permeates the crowd; a great feeling of joy and excitement that comes from being involved, regardless of the role assumed in this, or other such clubs.
Personally, I cannot wait to ascend the Driver’s Stand and view the practice rounds that will be taking place soon.
I’ll be watching the professionals to see what the track throws up as far as challenges to be aware of: the elevation, the turns, the jumps, the valleys.
I have it on good authority that grip and power are essential to success!
The Asian Buggy Championships are a wonderful concept that has brought together so many people not only here today, but also earlier in the year, in the Philippines.
For Asia, and now Australia, the thrill of remote-controlled racing is upon us, and I have great pleasure in declaring the Asian Buggy Championships officially open.
