Cancer Council Queensland's Australia's Biggest Morning Tea 2024
Cancer Council Queensland Chair, Mr Robert Gregg and members of the Board; CEO, Mr Andrew Donne; supporters; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen.
I begin by acknowledging the Original Custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today.
As Joint Patrons of Cancer Council Queensland, Graeme and I are thrilled to host one of Australia’s Biggest Morning Teas right here at Government House.
Over 500,000 hosts have held Morning Teas in support of the eradication of cancer over the past 30 years. What an achievement, and what a wonderful feeling it is to be a part of something so far-reaching.
It is an unfortunate fact that cancer continues to plague our communities.
We all know someone who has had to face up to the health challenges posed by this illness, and the negative effects that it wreaks on individuals and families.
We must continue our mission to raise awareness and funds to fight this terrible disease. And our mission today is to do just that, over a cuppa with friends.
Across Australia, there are many such cuppas being had. This is a wonderful coming together of our communities to fight a common foe.
The monies raised through such initiatives as Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea go a long way to supporting people impacted by cancer and to supporting ongoing medical research.
A cancer-free future is certainly one we all dream of. Through raising our cups in a communal salute, we hope to, one day, make this dream a reality.
To the dedicated employees, volunteers, and supporters of the Cancer Council Queensland, we thank you wholeheartedly for the work you continue to do on behalf of all Queenslanders.
We are so glad to be able to host you for morning tea and play a role in this fabulous community fundraising event.
Thank you.
