Community Bushland Walk - April 2023
Health and Wellbeing Queensland Chief Executive Officer, Dr Robyn Littlewood; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen; boys and girls.
I begin by acknowledging the original custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respect to Elders, past, present, and emerging. I extend that respect to any First Nations people here with us today.
On the eve of World Health Day, I am very pleased to welcome you all here today for a Community Bushland Walk.
The theme for this year’s World Health Day is “health for all”, a great reminder that health is important not just for each of us as individuals, but for our families, friends, colleagues, and for the wider population of Queensland, and of Australia and the globe.
I would like to thank Health and Wellbeing Queensland, who in partnership with Government House, host these community walks through the beautiful Fernberg Estate to encourage a healthy and active State.
Good health is a lifestyle and being active plays a major part in that.
Through events such as this, we are all walking towards a healthier and more active everyday life.
And we are able to show you through our Heritage-listed gardens and grounds – of which our horticulture team are rightfully very proud!
Throughout my time as Governor over the past 18 months, my husband Graeme and I have very much enjoyed welcoming Queenslanders onto these picturesque grounds.
Whether it be during one of our Picnic Sunday, like the one we held last weekend, or the many Community Bushland Walks like today’s, we love seeing groups of smiling faces enjoying the surrounds.
So please, enjoy the walk, some fresh air and greenery, and maybe if you’re lucky you will spot one of the native animals that also call Fernberg home!
Before we get underway, I would like to invite Health and Wellbeing CEO Dr Robyn Littlewood to say a few words.
Thank you.
