Crosby Park Meals on Wheels 50th Anniversary

Representing Member for Clayfield, Ms Katy Douglas; Councillor for Hamilton Ward, Councillor David McLachlan, Councillor for Central Ward, Councillor Vicki Howard; Queensland Meals on Wheels Chair, Ms Roslyn Broom, and CEO, Mr Evan Hill; President of the Crosby Park Meals on Wheels, Ms Geena Luckin OAM; distinguished guests; ladies and gentlemen. 

I begin by acknowledging the Traditional Owners of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today. 

Today, we celebrate a remarkable milestone - the 50th anniversary of Crosby Park Meals on Wheels.  

 As Joint Patron of Queensland Meals on Wheels, alongside my husband Graeme, I am honoured to recognise and commend the dedication and selflessness of past and present volunteers, staff and supporters who have propelled this service to great heights, delivering meals to those in need. 

Of course, Meals on Wheels is more than a mere meal delivery service; its also delivers smiles, a sense of belonging, and companionship to Aussies in need. 

By allowing those who are unable to cook or shop for themselves to remain in the comfort of their own homes, you are preserving their sense of familiarity, freedom, and independence. A priceless gift. 

Indeed, volunteers are the very heart and soul of this remarkable service; and it is thanks to volunteers, including those here today, that so many lives have been touched.  

I acknowledge, too, the staff and supporters at Crosby Park Meals on Wheels, whose tireless efforts and commitment to this noble cause have played an integral role in ensuring the success of this service for half a century now! 

In closing, and before we ourselves enjoy a delicious meal together, let us remember that this service is not simply about delivering meals—it is about delivering hope, preserving dignity, and nurturing the human spirit.
