Finals Fever Wellbeing Walk
Health and Wellbeing Queensland CEO, Dr Robyn Littlewood; volunteers and, of course, fellow walkers.
I begin by acknowledging the Original Custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today.
I’m glad to see you all here this morning, many of you wearing your team colours, and wearing them well, too!
And can you believe it, our own Brisbane Lions through to another Grand Final!
I use the word ‘believe’ in the spirit of a campaign being run by true blue supporters of the Lions on social media— or should I say true ‘blue, maroon and gold’ supporters.
And who’s to say all that belief didn’t contribute to the Lions winning their way through to their second consecutive Grand Final!?
For example, I believe — very strongly in fact — in the importance of health and wellbeing, as does Dr Littlewood, I feel safe in saying.
These regular wellbeing walks are an example of that belief in action – and one of the many ways I seek to fulfil one of my pledges as Governor to encourage a healthy and active State.
During the year, Health and Wellbeing Queensland and my team here at Government House, work closely together to promote the Fernberg Estate as a place for all Queenslanders to get outdoors, improve their fitness and get closer to nature.
You believed you’d have a nice morning here with us, walking through this magnificent parcel of native bushland in the heart of the city, and I believe you absolutely will.
And whatever belief we have left, let’s pay it forward to our favourite team — which I’m sure for many of you will be the Lions when they take on Sydney in the Grand Final this weekend!
Thank you.
