Inaugural Community Bushland Walk
Hello everyone, and welcome to Government House.
I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples, and extend respectful greetings to Elders, past, present and emerging.
When I was sworn-in as Governor in November, I pledged to make Government House a welcoming place for all Queenslanders, and to promote, as best I could, healthy and active lifestyles.
I quickly set about implementing two new initiatives to make the estate more accessible – free picnic Sundays, and free bushland walks, the first of which is today.
I hope you will enjoy this opportunity to meet new people, stay healthy and discover one of Brisbane’s most significant parcels of remnant bushland, which is home to more than 60 species of birds.
I also thank Health and Wellbeing Queensland – an organisation of which I am very proud Patron – for their support today.
I encourage you all to enjoy this special occasion, here at the ‘people’s estate’, Government House.
Thank you.
