Springsure District Primary Cross Country
Thank you for your kind introduction, Principal Hoare and good morning everyone.
I begin by acknowledging the original custodians of the many lands within the Central Highlands and pay my respects to their Elders past, present and emerging, and to any First Nations people here today.
What a treat to be here on your District Cross Country Day and in such spectacular surrounds – I think the Springsure Golf Course could just be the most picturesque golf course in all of Queensland!
This is my first time visiting Springsure since being sworn in as Governor in November 2021 and Graeme and I have had the most wonderful couple of days travelling through Mount Morgan, Biloela and Moura on our way here, to the Central Highlands.
As Governor and the representative of His Majesty King Charles the Third in this State, one of my most important jobs is to visit people where they live.
It is the people and the people and places within our vast State that contribute to making Queensland so diverse and interesting.
I particularly enjoy meeting the young people in our communities, because you demonstrate so much enthusiasm and energy.
And what an enormous amount of energy we have on display here today!
Congratulations to all the runners who have earned the right to represent your school in today’s event.
It’s wonderful to see you all being so active, because we know that active kids are happy and healthy kids! So, keep moving, and keep up the great work.
Most of all, enjoy the day. Be proud of your efforts and the fine sportsmanship and school spirit you are displaying. You are all a credit to your families, your teachers, your schools and your communities.
Thank you for welcoming us so warmly.
