The Salvation Army Platinum Jubilee Concert
State Member for Bundamba, Mr Lance McCallum MP; Federal Member for Blair, Honourable Shayne Neumann MP; Ipswich Mayor, Cr Teresa Harding; From The Salvation Army Bundamba, Majors Laithe and Kaylene Greenaway and all Salvation Army officers, soldiers and adherents; our brilliant musicians; ladies and gentlemen; girls and boys; and I particularly recognise our local World War Two veterans here today – what an honour for us all!
I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the lands around Ipswich, and extend respectful greetings to Elders, past, present and emerging.
I am thrilled to join you for today’s special Platinum Jubilee Concert – in what I believe is the 100th year since this beautiful Citadel was officially opened back in 1922.
I am looking forward with great anticipation to an afternoon of joyful music and wondrous celebration with members of local community here in Bundamba.
I would like to think Her Majesty will be deeply touched by this gesture of loyalty and gratitude for her 70 years of gracious, dignified service to the people of Queensland, Australia and the Commonwealth.
The Queen recently recognised the important work of the Salvation Army when it was one of a select few organisations chosen to send representatives to a charity event for frontline COVID-19 workers held at Windsor Castle in December 2020.
The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, The Earl and Countess of Wessex and The Princess Royal were also present.
Now I can’t quite match that combined star power!
But I am very honoured to be here today.
I particularly thank and acknowledge the incredible work the Salvation Army does in this local community, especially after the recent floods.
The Salvation Army does such a magnificent job in supporting people during their time of need, and most importantly, in spreading hope and joy – which is what this community needs so much of right now.
I thank everyone involved in putting together this wonderful community event – the band, the Salvation Army Bundamba, and all the supporters here today.
I look forward to an afternoon of fabulous performances, here in the beautiful community Citadel. Thank you.
