Visit to Foodbank Queensland

Chair, Mr Robert Newey and Board Directors; CEO, Ms Sara Harrup; staff, volunteers and other members of the Foodbank Queensland network. Good morning.

I begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera peoples, and extend respectful greetings to Elders, past, present and emerging.

I am very grateful for the opportunity to join you today to tour this centre and meet the outstanding Queensland volunteers and supporters whose hard work and dedication in supporting fellow citizens does not go unnoticed.

I particularly express my gratitude to those on the front line during the COVID-19 pandemic, and those supporting flood-affected communities.

The efforts you have taken to ensure that your fellow community members have access to food, regardless of their circumstances, are outstanding.

And this makes me very proud to be your Patron!

I now have the great honour of presenting a Certificate of Vice-Regal Patronage to your Chair in recognition of the powerful contribution this organisation makes to the wider community. Thank you.
