Yoga on the Lawn
Health and Wellbeing Queensland CEO, Dr Robyn Littlewood; Co-Founders of The Yoga Partnership, Ms Amy Booth and Ms Beth Burgess; Health and Wellbeing Queensland volunteers; ladies and gentlemen.
I begin by acknowledging the Original Custodians of the lands around Brisbane, the Turrbal and Jagera people, and pay my respects to Elders past, present and emerging, and to all First Nations people here this morning.
Good morning, everyone, and welcome to one of the most underappreciated parts of Government House — our exceptionally kept front lawn!
Over the past couple of years, I’ve led regular wellbeing walks through the Estate’s original bushland that have been very popular with the community.
Today, we're doing something a little different — we're rolling out our yoga mats and striking a few poses to improve our health and wellbeing.
This free community yoga session, led by The Yoga Partnership, embodies a key part of my vision for Queensland: a healthy and active state.
As some of you know, I am Patron of Health and Wellbeing Queensland and as such I, too, am incredibly proud to support The Yoga Partnership's mission.
They understand, as do I, that the benefits of yoga extend far beyond physical fitness.
Yoga and mindfulness can be powerful tools for mental health, trauma recovery, and overall wellbeing.
The Yoga Partnership recognises that these benefits are not always accessible to everyone.
That's why they take yoga directly to those who need it most, creating a safe and comfortable space for people to connect with themselves.
This morning's session is a perfect example of that mission in action.
By opening the Government House grounds to this event, we hope to make yoga a little more accessible for all Queenslanders.
So, let's take a deep breath, stretch out those postures, and enjoy this unique experience together.
Thank you to The Yoga Partnership and to Health and Wellbeing Queensland for their incredible work, and to all of you for joining us!
