In Conversation with the Governor-General: Part III
Government House Queensland presents the third instalment of a conversation between the Governor and Governor-General of Australia, which took place at the Fernberg Estate during an official visit to Queensland by Her Excellency the Honourable Ms Sam Mostyn AC.
We are sharing highlights of their wide-ranging conversation, which included such topics as the role of Vice-Regal leaders in our modern democracy, the value of care, kindness, and respect for our people — and our institutions — and the importance of celebrating the diverse achievements that make Australia unique, in a series of short videos.
In this segment, they talk about the novel way Queensland’s Governor has chosen to help teach young people not only about the Vice-Regal role but also about the place where she works and lives, Fernberg.
Her Excellency commissioned a children’s book called ‘A Place for all Queensland’, in which a pair of squirrel gliders names Mac and Mary teach us that all are welcome inside this magnificent publicly owned house and estate.
Government House encourages members of the public to visit Fernberg and learn more about the estate’s role in Queensland history, and that of successive Vice-Regal representatives who have worked and lived there. They can do so by attending one of our open days or picnic Sundays, by booking a spot on a free tour led by knowledgeable volunteer guides, or by joining in one of the regular bushland walks led by the Governor herself!
Her Excellency and Professor Nimmo have travelled widely throughout Queensland during the Governor’s term so far and visited many schools, where they enjoy reading the students and gifting copies of ‘A Place for all Queenslanders’ to their libraries.
Please enjoy this moment with the Governor and Governor-General.
